Get to Know Me
Hi, I’m Natania Lipp.
I’m a Licensed Psychologist in St. Louis, Missouri. I am trained as a generalist, and I work with a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, life transitions, and identity issues. I specialize in trauma-focused therapy and have extensive experience with intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and LGBTQ+ issues.
My Training
I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Maryland (go Terps!). I then earned a doctorate in Counseling Psychology at Lehigh University. I completed my clinical internship and postdoctoral residency at the Veterans Affairs St. Louis Healthcare System. In my postdoctoral training, I specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
I trained as a therapist in many settings, including college counseling centers, rehabilitation and residential programs, primary care offices, and outpatient mental health clinics. Throughout my training, I also volunteered in domestic violence shelters, rape crisis intervention centers, and homelessness programs. Across these settings, I maintained a focus on providing accessible, trauma-informed treatment to individuals from many backgrounds.
My Approach:
It can be challenging to sift through all of the jargon and find a therapist that fits with your needs and preferences. Here are some of the ways I’d describe my approach:
-
When possible, I use strategies that have been extensively researched on individuals with similar issues. I also stay up-to-date with how to apply research to my clinical practice in order to ensure I’m using the most effective strategies to meet your needs.
I am trained in multiple evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE). I also have experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), Written Exposure Therapy (WET), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I).
-
I work to see you as a whole person – I don’t just see you for the problem you’re coming in with. I also want to know about your strengths, interests, and identities.
-
Most of us have experienced hardship in our lives. Whether you want to dive right into trauma-focused therapy, or you have a trauma history that you’re not quite ready to share, I recognize the importance of safety, trust, and collaboration. I strive to co-create a space with you that reflects those qualities.
-
Our identities and backgrounds play a big role in how we are treated and how we navigate the world. Some people want to talk about these concepts directly in session (e.g., exploring sexuality, discussing discrimination, unpacking religious values). For others, identity is not a big focus. Either way, I often consider the influence of cultural context, systemic oppression, current events on mental health.
